"This was a great read. It was honest about its target audience (saved $250k+ already for retirement) without being blind to the hurdles that keep people from joining that same demographic. Simultaneously lauds the FIRE movement where appropriate, and calls into question some of its principles where they are out of line with current academic research. Also gets into topics beyond money like social health. Highly recommend this read of you are retiring--or if you ever plan on being able to do so!"

"Barbara O'Neill packed "flipping A Switch" with real-life usable information that is well researched and presented in an easy to read style. The topic is covered from every angle. Something for everyone. My particular favorite topic --allowing myself to spend more freely in retirement. If I don't spend it, someone else will!"

"My wife and I are savers or “ants” as Dr. O’Neill described. We “flipped the switch” several years ago, but this book still gave us lots of think about as we face life’s future challenges. It is an easy-read, well-researched book with amazing references if you want more details. It has so much practical, real-life information, with specific action steps. We plan to do several things recommended in “Flipping the Switch.” Who doesn’t want more happiness, financial security, and less stress in later life!"

"Flipping a Switch... is the best guide for counseling you on finances, lifestyle, and social transitions. I had the financial pieces mostly in place but had to be "schooled" on how to redefine myself in retirement, deal with changing relationships, and think about and plan for aging issues. This easy to read book gave tips that flipped my thinking, and will be my reference as I continue to navigate my retirement!"

"I loved the practical advice! The interactive tools that were referenced allowed me to review potential retirement scenarios. A must-read for anyone who is preparing for their next step in life!"

"Clearly, I’m not the only one concerned about outliving my money. Though retirement is more than a decade away, there are so many tips that I can start to implement now - particularly in Chapter 13 regarding organization and simplification. Each chapter has a great explanation of the issue and then provides action steps to address. Loved the references at the end of each chapter. I would recommend to everyone, personally and/or professionally, as you support those who are “flipping the switch"."

"Are you looking for a quick read for important topics of later-in-life decisions? Is the Covid-19 pandemic pushing you to think about your life and plans? Do you like easily-read books with useful information, a few good stories, and a dash of humor? Then this book is for you. Though I'm already moving through the three transitions described by the author, I found helpful ideas, actions still to take, and references. Who knew as an "ant" I had a saving-to- spending switch to flip? Thank you Barbara for your insightful guide."

"Well thought out, laid out and easily read. More than just advice about managing your financial resources in later life, but an entire philosophy on how to stay physically, mentally, and emotionally sound as well. Highly recommended."
